With many anti-bacterial products, the process of combatting bugs and infections comes at a cost to the environment, namely in the form of hazardous ingredients that can reside in the environment for lengthy periods of time. Most commonly, once these products enter the water ways they can be harmful to aquatic life with long term effect. The more these chemicals are being used in the domestic capacity the more the harmful byproducts are building up in the environment.

We are all familiar with the overpowering smell of chlorine when we enter a pool area.
